History
Morris Bros was established in 1870 and is still run by the Morris Family 5 generations later.
When John Morris established his family business over 135 years ago, they were hard times for most people but John established a reputation for quiet, caring efficiency and his hearse drawn by black horses with black plumes was a familiar sight in the town.
The firm was then passed to his eldest son, Harry, who went on to become President of the Devon and Cornwall branch of the National Association of Funeral Directors. Eventually his son Ken Morris took over and ran Morris Bros in the same professional manner and he became the President of the Plymouth and District branch of the NAFD. Sadly Ken died in 1977 leaving the business to his widow Jo Morris who then ran the business until 2001 when she retired after working within the firm for 37 years. Elaine Morris began working with her mother in 1984 and now runs the business with her son Simon Luke and Daughter Kate Luke.
Elaine Morris, Ken's daughter, is now the fourth generation to be running the family business and with her son Simon Luke and daughter Kate Luke the fifth generation is continuing to maintain the quiet, caring efficiency that was achieved by Mr John Morris all those years ago.
